Aromatherapy
What is an Aromatherapy Massage?
Aromatherapy is the systematic use of volatile plant oils known as essential oils for the treatment or prevention of disease. It is a form of complementary therapy designed to treat the whole person and not just the symptom or disease by assisting the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself.
Essential oils consist of tiny aromatic molecules that are readily absorbed via the skin, and whilst breathing they enter the lungs. These therapeutic constituents next enter the bloodstream and are carried around the body where they can deliver their beneficial healing powers. Because they are highly concentrated, only a small quantity of essential oil is required to bring about results.
When using the oils correctly, the soothing combination of beautiful aromas and massage, work to regulate, balance, heal and maintain your entire being.
All my treatments are very bespoke but aromatherapy is more so because the oils used are specifically blended for you and your needs. Therefore each aromatherapy massage can use a different blend of oils depending on your emotional/physical and psychological needs.

What are the benefits?
Aromatherapy treatments have both physiological and psychological effects. The combination of massage and the medicinal and therapeutic qualities of the essential oils (molecules both inhaled [aroma] and absorbed through the skin) can soothe, revitalise, uplift the spirit, encourage positive thinking and boost the immune system enabling the body to heal itself.
Physiological Benefits – Aromatherapy massage can:
enhance lymphatic drainage – this helps to reduce fluid retention and prevent oedema
induce a feeling of deep relaxation in the body
help to restore balance in the body
stimulate the body’s natural immune system
increase the oxygen and nutrient supply to the tissues by increasing the blood circulation
help to increase energy levels as blockages and congestion in the nerves are eased
Psychological Benefits – Aromatherapy massage can:
promote a general state of well-being
calm and soothe the mind
help to reduce nervous tension
help to lift the mood and reduce feelings of depression

What happens during a treatment?
An initial consultation is carried out before the treatment, where medical history, current problems and medications are discussed, including your current emotional state etc. We will discuss why you are needing treatment and a blend will be created specifically for you. The essential oils can help you emotionally, physically and mentally. We will also discuss any particular areas to focus on. You will then be asked to undress and lay between the towels on the massage table.
I will then start the treatment on your back, neck and shoulders, moving to the back of your legs. Then you will be asked to turn over and I will continue the treatment on your arms, stomach, front of legs and finishing with a gentle face massage.
An Aromatherapy Massage is much more gentle and less deep than a Swedish Massage, this is because the oils are doing a lot of the work.
The effects can be instant and long lasting.
We will then discuss the treatment and a treatment plan for future sessions if you feel one is needed. You will receive an after care leaflet that we will go through.
